It is the safest Spring Break destination. The island has no "downtown" or bad sections of town, South Padre Island is the first U.S. Spring Break island destination and the only one to offer 2 nations in 1 vacation. South Padre is located on the Southernmost tip of Texas, just 30 miles from the Mexican border, South Padre Island is mile wide and 7 miles long and washed by the Gulf of Mexico. And since the 1970's South Padre has been a spring break hot spot for the Midwest students. South Padre became more popular each year and is the best alternative to traveling to an abroad destination. South Padre is students’ "someplace different". Due to its location, Padre attracts the greatest mixture of students then any other spring break destination. And they drive or fly here from all over the country. Accommodation in Padre varies from 3 star hotels to 5 star motels. And South Padre is also the one spring break destination that provides a variety of condos that can hold up to 12 people and include full kitchens. The majority of packages are 7 nights, but you can also choose from 3, 4, 5 up to 6 nights. Flying to Padre usually includes scheduled air with Continental, American or Southwest airlines in addition to round-trip airport/hotel transfers. And all South Padre visitors are informed of their departure day and flight times within 7 days of booking the reservation. It is legal to drink in Padre from 21, but most clubs allow entry at 18 yrs of age. The beach stretches here are public and alcohol is legally allowed and there are Keg Parties with thousands of students partying all day long. But you can bring your own drink and avoid paying $8 per drink to the hotel beach bar. And that will add up to at least $100 saved in spending cash when compared to other destinations. There are no problems with transportation. There is a free trolley transportation to/from several locations from 7am - 8pm. You may also find plenty of cabs available and the fare will never cost more then $4 per person despite the distance driven (and that may save you as a minimum another $50pp if compared to other destinations). Activities all day long may include a variety of water sports, beach and pool parties and planned concerts and contests. During nights the nightclubs often provide the "must bus", a free transportation system that picks-up/drops-off students anywhere along the main route. South Padre boasts a vivid nightlife and the most trendy bars/clubs are Louie's, Tequila Frog's and Schlitterbahn. You may dress as casual as you want or as dress-up as you want. And remember that the Mexican markets and nightclubs are just 20 short minutes away!
